Over the last few weeks my family has been playing the “Where did I put that?” game. We have just moved house and are enjoying the wonderful task of unpacking all the boxes that we so painstakingly packed just a few days ago.
Moving house is a great thing because it is the greatest possible motivation you will ever experience towards simplifying your life and getting rid of all of the junk that you have accumulated. If you will not throw something away when you are about to move then I am afraid you will be stuck with it for the rest of your life!
The process of looking at things which are in the cupboards, behind the fridge, stacked up high in the garage, or stuffed in under the house, leads us to ask the questions:Is this really valuable?Do I really need it?Will I ever use it again?
Jesus counselled us regarding possessions:“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”Matthew 6:19-21
What do you have in your house? Knick-knacks and things of varying value? Is there a strong spiritual treasure, or is that hidden away or missing altogether?
