The gates are shut, silence falls, teeth are bared and…they’re off! Straight out of the gate they emerge, and in a few moments they are panting heavily and straining with all of their might to take a hold of the prize which is moving ahead of them, always just a little out of reach.
Have you ever wondered what would happen if the Greyhound finally caught up with the mechanical rabbit? For its entire working career the greyhound has been focussed upon the succulent juices contained within and yet the reality falls far short of its desire. Imagine the dog’s surprise, confusion and disappointment when it breaks three teeth on the metallic no so ‘chew-toy’.
We spend much of our time pursuing different things. Wealth, stability and comfort for our future, all become the objects of our focus and our desire. The challenge is that we need to be sure that those things we are pursuing are really worth the devotion we are giving them. If you made a list of all of the things you are chasing, how do they measure up? Are they valuable and meaningful or are they just dressed up mechanical rabbits?
Jesus said, “seek first the
God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” (Matthew 6:33)
If you make room in your life to pursue the Lord I can guarantee that you will find a sense of meaning, purpose and fulfilment. I also promise that you won’t be disappointed with the prize that is waiting for you.
