It happens to me and it happens to you. In fact, it happens every day, without you having to think about it. Wherever we are and whatever we are doing, we all get thirsty.
Experts say that if we are feeling thirsty then we have already started to dehydrate. Most of us walk around with much less fluid in our system than is good for us. Being dehydrated caused all manner of physical problems: headaches, blurred vision, problems with the kidneys, indigestion and even bird-cage breath!
I had some relatives come over to stay with us from England. I have never met people who drank less. They didn’t drink water, tea, coffee or soft drinks. The only thing they would drink was the occasional beer and that certainly wouldn’t help their dehydration problem!
We need to be in the pattern of drinking, before we need it. We need it every day and most of us have got into a habit that works well.
I find it interesting that God made us as ‘thirsty’ beings. We are different to Camels who can go for weeks between drinks. We must drink natural water every day and this truth is mirrored in our Spiritual lives as well.
Just as we have a ‘natural’ thirst we also have a ‘Spiritual’ thirst. The problem is that most people walk around spiritually ‘dehydrated’!
Jesus said “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. “He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” John 7:37-38
You definitely have a thirst for what Jesus is offering, we all do. The question is “will you drink or will you let the opportunity pass you by?”
